Taking a few days off

I'm sure you have all seen the horrific events that happened in Texas yesterday.  I'm sure a few of you would recognize that it happened in my hometown.  My dad retired from the military in Killeen when I was 10 and I lived there until I moved to NJ with my husband and kids about 10 years ago or so.

Two of my kids were born in Darnell Army Community Hospital.  I got married on base, where my husband was stationed until he left the military a few years later.

I just heard from someone that the shooter lived in an apartment building where I lived when I was pregnant with my oldest son.

All of this has just hit me like a ton of bricks.  I haven't lived there in years, but if you know anyone from Texas, or anyone in the military - once you are a part of that, you always are.

In better news, today is my daughter's birthday.  So I'm taking a few days off, enjoying the family, and getting my stuff together.    See you on Monday.

Having a daughter in the Army and due to report to Fort Hood the first of the year, it was very unsettling! She birthday is also 9/11, so I can understand needing to take some time! Please tell your daughter Happy Birthday. Everyone please light a candle for both the men & women hurt/died at Ft Hood, and for all the soliders everywhere.
Still Proud Amry Mom,
Jerry

One Texan to another...hang in there. Can't tell you how many friends I've had at Fort Hood. I've spent lots of time Killeen. (I'm a little bit north of there, but I think most blog stats thingys list me as being from Killeen). Right there with ya.

Oh I heard about the shooting last night. I was shocked. You used to live near there? That's a lil too close to home if you know what I mean. It's unsettling.

I'm from Texas, although not that area, and in the military, so I was rather unnerved when I heard about the whole thing. Sounds like you have some pretty strong and unique ties to it, so I can definitely understand this hitting you hard. Enjoy you days off!

Happy birthday to you daughter! Hope its a wonderful one!

Happy Birthday to your daughter Kris! I am sorry to hear about your anxiety with the Ft. Hood shootings. I blogged about it as well because my twin brother is stationed there. Thankfully he was not on base at the time, but he is still having a rough time with the situation.
Enjoy your weekend!
Blessings,
Hoi Sum

I moved to Killeen with my husband and 2 children & I still live within a hour of the base. I don't really know what else I can do to help anyone except donate blood (which practically *everyone* in the area is doing, thank goodness!!) but I'm here if anyone needs anything.

Happy birthday to your daughter!! Concentrate on this very blessed day in your history. Celebrate her life and how her life has (and will) touch other lives!

Aww ::hugs:: it was a scary day. My brother Joe is stationed at Fort Hood, but in Iraq right now. Odd that this event was scarier than anything I've heard from Joe in Iraq!

One of my best friends was stationed there for a while--he's out of the army now, medical discharge.

He lost his job yesterday, because of this incident where his employers knew he was stationed, and because on the fifth he sent out a text to everyone (including co-workers) Of the V for Vendetta speech. His employers thought he would go on a shooting rampage and fired him. For texting about V for Vendetta? C'mon! :(

Fortunately he already has an interview with a much better job.

Do what you must dear lady. I worked with the perpetrator in Maryland and know his brother, who is falling apart. His family is being harassed to the point that he is happy his parents are not around to witness the treatment. Enjoy your family and send out massive positive energy to those who need it, as will I.

Hugs.

Most of us can never comprehend the hatred that must plague the perpetrators of such things.
